Homeschool Unified Sports Teams of Lafayette

Baseball

Registration remains open for the spring 2024 season, with some alterations to our original plan.  Absolute final day to register is Thursday, February 29.  If we do not have enough players by that date, we will not be scheduling games for this spring. See all details below.

Important Details:

  • Indoor drills and practices will start on Wednesday, February 7 at Lifelong Sports in Lafayette, IN.  Practice time is from 11am-1pm.  We will practice at this same time on Wednesdays every week through Wednesday, March 13.
  • Registration will remain open until Thursday, February 29.  Boys can start participating in the indoor practices at the time of registration and payment, even if it's after our start date.
  • We will practice outside (weather permitting) after our indoor practices are over.
  • We must have a minimum of 12 players to field a team.  If we do not have 12 registered players by February 29, we will continue with indoor practices/drills, but will not continue with any outdoor practices and will not schedule any games for this spring.
  • If we can field a team, games will begin in mid-March and will run through the end of May.
  • We have communicated with several other teams within the state of Indiana, and are confident that we will have options to schedule games.  We hope to schedule games to be played on weekdays and on Saturdays. No games will be scheduled on Sundays.

What we need from players:

  • A strong desire to play the game of baseball and a strong commitment to the team
  • Tell your friends about this new team and recruit them to play with us!
  • You will need to provide your own baseball glove, batting helmet, cleats, and baseball pants (color TBD).

What we need from parents:

  • Help with coaching -- if you or someone you know is experienced and/or interested in coaching baseball, please let us know.  We are in need of more coaches!
  • Help with fundraising efforts
  • Help with keeping books/stats during the games
  • Flexibility and grace as we navigate our way through the first season of a newly-offered sport

 Eligibility

The teams are open to homeschool children.  The baseball team, in particular, is for boys only.   Homeschool is defined as schooling that is parent directed through the home or organizations that are non-public, non-accredited, and non-approved by the state of Indiana.  Taking dual credit courses, e.g. from Ivy Tech, is counted as homeschool education.

High School Eligibility:
Players are required to be between the ages of 14-18 years old (age requirement is as of January 1, 2024).  (Please reach out to us directly to discuss any exceptions to this rule).

We Need Help from Parents to Make the Season Run Smoothly

Volunteer help from parents is necessary to keep the team running smoothly. We presently need parents to volunteer time for these tasks:

  • Books/stats
  • Fundraising
  • Coaching/practice assistance

Additional needs will be communicated to parents when practices begin in January.  Each family unit is expected to volunteer in some way to support the needs of the team.

Registration Fees

Total cost for indoor drills/practices and for a fully fielded team with games is $200.

$70 is due before participation in the indoor drills/practices.
$130 additional will be collected by March 13 only if we have enough players to field a team.

With your registration and first payment of $70, please note if you intend to only participate in the indoor practices, or if you intend to commit to the team if games can be scheduled.

Follow These Steps to Pay Your Fee for 2024:

$70 is due before any participation in the indoor drills/practices.  The remaining amount of $130 will be due March 13, 2024 only if we have enough players to field a team.  Fees are non-refundable.  In the event that we do not have enough players committed to field a team by the registration deadline, HUSTL will refund any fees already paid minus any amount due for indoor practices.

You may pay by mailing a check to the address below.  Or, you may pay through PayPal.  A 3% fee is added for using PayPal, since PayPal charges HUSTL about that much to use their service.
